About the Author
John P. McKay (Ph.D., University of California, Berkeley) is professor emeritus at the University of Illinois. He has written or edited numerous works, including the Herbert Baxter Adams Prize-winning book Pioneers for Profit: Foreign Entrepreneurship and Russian Industrialization, 1885-1913.

Clare Haru Crowston (Ph.D., Cornell University) teaches at the University of Illinois, where she is currently associate professor of history. She is the author of Fabricating Women: The Seamstresses of Old Regime France, 1675-1791, which won the Berkshire and Hagley Prizes. She edited two special issues of the Journal of Women's History, has published numerous journal articles and reviews, and is a past president of the Society for French Historical Studies.

Merry E. Wiesner-Hanks (Ph.D., University of Wisconsin-Madison) taught first at Augustana College in Illinois, and since 1985 at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she is currently UWM Distinguished Professor in the department of history. She is the coeditor of the Sixteenth Century Journal and the author or editor of more than twenty books, most recently The Marvelous Hairy Girls: The Gonzales Sisters and Their Worlds and Gender in History. She is the former Chief Reader for Advanced Placement World History.Joe Perry (Ph.D., University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) is Associate Professor of modern German and European history at Georgia State University. He has published numerous articles and is author of Christmas in Germany: A Cultural History (2010). His current research interests focus on issues of consumption, gender, and popular culture in West Germany and Western Europe after World War II.

More "pulps"from the UK. The stories in all thes little paper bound books are culled from the pages of the COMMANDOS series of comic like books from the sixties and seventies. Amazon imports and offers these works at great value to the buyer. Service is quick and dependable. This series needs no rehashing on my part explaining them. See other reviews...you're interested or you wouldn't be reading my review!
True to its title, the three stories in this volume deal with fighting in the North African desert areas in WWII. SAS and LRDG stories...and a surprising one that puts British, Italian, and Germans together against a common and evil foe. With a twist or two of humerous dialog! Not bad...take a look for yourself...you probably won't be disappointed!

I thoroughly enjoyed this comic, the drawings were accurate and realistic. The plots were a. Bit idealistic but fun none the less.

Stefanie Hohl, M.Ed. has been teaching children to read for years. Through teaching preschool, homeschooling, and running storytime at a local bookstore, Stefanie has developed this simple Learn-to-Read picture book. She lives in Pittsburgh with her husband and five children.

Smart and Simple

I loved the author’s idea of using pictures, sounds and hand motions to help children remember the sounds we use in our language. It is so interesting that after learning just a few sounds and blending them into words, a child has a widened vocabulary of over 50 words!

I especially loved that the author encourages parents to start with sounds, and when the child is ready they will blend the sounds into words. She understands that learning is different for each child, but can be fun and educational at the same time.

One thing I feel could be improved was that some of the hand motions used with the sounds seemed inconsistent with the sound of the letter or with the animal. But overall, it was an easy and fun read!

I would recommend this book to parents with children learning to read and will definitely use this method with my own child!

We were totally shocked!

[[VIDEOID:da770eefe0ae302696c727546743f4f5]] Our energetic 2 year old opened the Amazon envelope yesterday and we read / acted out the first three pages. He is a very active little boy and LOVES THE MOTIONS AND SOUNDS for the letters. Well, this morning, I was making breakfast and my 8 year old found the book and started reading it with him. NO KIDDING --- our 2 year old read the 5th page by himself!!! We were totally BLOWN AWAY! I got it on video as I thought it was cute they were reading together. His expression is so funny!! And my 2 year old is so proud of himself!! We were just so surprised that after only reading it a few times our 2 year old (3 in July) picked up on the actions and sounds so fast! Absolutely a 5-star rating!! Would be perfect for families, preschools, grandparents, libraries. So grateful for this book and seeing my children read together and get excited about reading! Love it!!

This book rocks! I bought this for my younger daughter (age 2), and she loves it! She asks to work on her "reading lessons," and picked up the gestures and sounds right away. She made it all the way through the book in just 2 or 3 sittings. The pictures are great, and the sounds and gestures are easy to remember. Very clever!! Even my older daughter (age 4-1/2), who already knows her letters and sounds has applied the ones from this book; I see her referring to them when she's trying to sound out a word sometimes! I love seeing my two girls sit down together with this book and practice the sounds together. Looking forward to using the flash cards (not included with this purchase) as a companion to take the lessons to the next level. Love this book and would definitely recommend!!
