I especially like the Reader's guide

I come to this work as a non-Catholic. I've listened to Timothy Gallagher on YouTube. He has a whole series on the work of St Ignatius. I wish that I had exposure to these rules of spiritual discernment of spirits. It would have made my experience with the Spiritual Path more clear and less flying by the seat of my pants and my heart for grace. Gallagher beings these early yet contemporary teaching on spiritual discernment into contemporary language. But more importantly, he brings to them a clarity of purpose and knowledge of one who is clearly doing his work and staying live to the subject. I especially like the Reader's guide, which I usually dislike in many writings. This has the power to underscore what needs to be underscored and applied as you actually live, not as you want to be seen by the teacher.

Who's fooling who? Who's leading who? -- Letting God lead! No fooling!

The name of the book "The Discernment of Spirits" is also the name of a seminar given by Father Timothy M. Gallagher, O.M.V. throughout the country. I attended one of these in Boston. I helped organize one in New York after also reading this book. In both, Father Gallagher described how Saint Ignatius of Loyola was able to judge his experiences and tell apart those which he believed originating from "the enemy" and those from the "good spirit." Becoming "aware" of differing experiences, "worldly" and "sacred," both causing delight, both taking a strong "hold on his heart," he came to recognize, little by little, whether these things that moved him were from the "bad spirit" or from "God." So absorbed was he in his thinking, that it took a special moment of grace, where "his eyes were opened a little" and he was able to see and marvel at the difference, where the one experience would leave him "sad" and the other "happy." From his "awareness," he was able to come to an "understanding" of what was happening. From this, he was able learn to "take action," accepting the "sacred" as from God and the "worldly" as from "the enemy." Saint Ignatius was later able to describe the actions of the "bad spirit" as ones that "bite, sadden, and place obstacles, disquieting with false reasons, so that the person may not go forward." On the contrary, he was able to see the movement of God as giving "courage and strength, consolations, tears, inspirations and quiet, easing and taking away all obstacles, so that the person may go forward in doing good."

Father Gallagher gives these seminars, and no doubt wrote this book, as "a help" from the teachings of Saint Ignatius, "for everyday living." He said this "applied to persons of every walk of life and vocation." Accordingly, he used examples from the experiences of everyday people.

Growing in the "Spiritual Life" can be exhilarating. It can also have its difficulties. If we sincerely attempt to advance spiritually, i.e., to seek union with God, Father Benedict Groeschel, C.F.R., in his book "Spiritual Passages," insists that spiritual direction (of some kind) is necessary if we are to avoid dangers present in living and advancing in the spiritual life. For instance, he tells us that as we grow in the spiritual life, "we expose more and more of our real being with ... its power and potential for good or ill." Because personal honesty and consistency is necessary on our part, the infused virtues (faith, hope, and charity), and their growth, become extremely important and necessary for our own "inner balance" as we look into our own soul and the hidden unconscious, which may contain very disturbing elements. Using a quote from Archbishop Fénelon, he gives us a look at how our dark side can appear while advancing spiritually:

As light increases, we see ourselves to be worse than we thought. We are amazed at our former blindness as we see issuing forth from the depths of our heart a whole swarm of shameful feelings, like filthy reptiles crawling from a hidden cave. We never could have believed that we harbored such things, and we stand aghast as we watch them gradually appear. But we must be neither amazed nor disheartened. We are not worse than we were; on the contrary, we are better. But while our faults diminish, the light by which we see them waxes brighter, and we are filled with horror. Bear in mind, for your own comfort, that we only perceive our malady when the cure begins. So long as there is no sign of cure, we are unconscious of the depth of our disease; we are in a state of blind presumption and hardness; the prey of self-delusion. While we go with the stream, we are unconscious of its rapid course; but when we begin to stem it ever so little, it makes itself felt.

We, therefore, need "helps." We need the wisdom of experience--of a mentor--to help us through some of what can be very the confusing aspects of growth. Father Benedict insists that, "when the dark recesses of our spirit become manifest, we especially need at least a friend to share our fears, and assure us that ours is not an uncommon experience." Although a personal Spiritual Director might be the answer here, not everyone has the good fortune of finding and having access to one. There are other ways, however, that this wisdom can be sought, found, and put to use.

I believe that Father Gallagher has done a great service to the Church and to those who are striving to practice the Spiritual Life. In this book we come to know the mind of Saint Ignatius of Loyola and how he learned that he could put his own inward experiences to the test to see if they were coming from God or not--to resolve his own perplexities. He taught this to his contemporary followers. He can teach us too. He can be that friend that will assure us that ours is not an uncommon experience. He can speak to us and teach us through this book which Father Gallagher so masterfully put together for us.

Bottom line: if we can discern God's action in our lives, we can learn to do God's will!

A Practical Guide to the Discernment of Spirits.

Discernment of Spirits is good book for anyone looking to learn about Ignatius' 14 rules on the discernment spirits. Each chapter is dedicated to discussing each rule. First the rule is stated as it was written by Ignatius and then the rule is discussed in a practical sense. Each rule is further illustrated by an example or two to provide a deeper clarity into how the rule can apply to the discerner's life. The only drawback is that this reading this book is similar to reading a manual, which leaves it a little dry and slow at times. I would recommend this book to anyone who wishes to learn more about the discernment of spirits. It's worth the price, but you probably won't read it more than once. Rather you may end up using it as a reference source after your first reading.

He has worked with some of the largest architectural firms in the world utilizing technology to drive solutions to architecture and engineering issues, assisted owners with successfully implementing BIM/VDC both contractually and technologically across their enterprises, and served as a retained expert in disputes involving BIM/VDC issues. He has had numerous articles on BIM/VDC published in trade and professional journals, lectured internationally, and has given courses on the same subject both to students and practitioners.

About the Author

Graeme Ruxton obtained a first degree in Physics before getting a PhD in Statistics and Modelling Science. After his PhD he worked for several years with the Scottish Agricultural Statistical Service in Edinburgh. He then got a lectureship in Ecology at the University of Glasgow, where he is now Professor of Theoretical Ecology.

Nick Colegrave trained as an evolutionary biologist, obtaining his first degree at the University of Sussex, and his PhD on the evolution of competition strategies at the University of Sheffield. Since then he has held a number of postdoctoral research positions at a range of universities including, McGill, St Andrews, Glasgow and Edinburgh, working on various aspects of evolutionary biology, with a range of organisms. At various points he has also held the post of zoology demonstrator at the University of Edinburgh, teaching experimental design to zoology students and advising on statistics. He is now lecturer in Biology at Edinburgh.

Great book for a necessary but boring subject

I don't like reading about experimental design, but as a biology grad student and also as a high school science teacher I need to constantly. This book takes a boring subject and presents it in a readable fashion without having to nap or purposely look for distractions. It also has the added benefit of having a chimp on the cover which just adds to its value as a conversation piece. It has an entire chapter on ethics, which is great considering most science books just mention ethics in passing. I would recommend this book to anyone helping students design science fair projects, or to those who forgot how hard it was to come up with their research topics and studies in college.

Ishi, the last of his tribe: NOT the "last wild indian"

I've read this historical novel aloud to both "regular" fifth graders and to Special Education children. All of them have become entranced with Kroeber's wonderful descriptions of day-to-day Yahi life, and with Ishi's tragic story. The fact that Ishi was a real person made it even more tangible to them. This story is undoubtedly romanticized, but it describes life as it probably really was for a small surviving group of California Indians during the encroachment of the "Saldu" (foreigners). They try valiantly to retain the vestiges of their very complex culture, but tragedy inevitibly ensues. The majority of the book describes Ishi's life before he personally came in contact with the White people he has feared and from whom he has hidden during most of his life. It's difficult to find books that accurately describe Native American life pre-contact, in a way that is understandable to young children. I highly recommend this book, especially if you can tie in some of the recent controversy about Ishi's brain, which was removed from his body for study after his death (against his explicit wishes) and was only recently repatriated to Native California people. It's a great lead-in for a discussion about Native People's rights in modern America.

A must-read for all American citizens.

I first decided to read this book because I was named after Ishi, and I wanted to find out why. When I finally read Kroeber's novel, I was struck with a mixed sense of pride at being able to identify with such an honest, spiritual, and kind-hearted man; disgust at how ignorantly and inexcusably the white man in power treated Ishi's people, and hence has continued to treat Native Americans throughout this country; and awe at the beauty and grace with which Kroeber writes. I am also a high school English teacher in a rural New England town. I teach this novel, and am continually struck by its ability to speak to teenagers who, for the most part, are not aware of this component of American history. Though the novel is partly fictional, as we cannot truly know, for instance, the conversations that Ishi had in the "watgurwa" with his elders as a teenage boy, Kroeber reveals to us a story based on very real, and very human, events. We read about the unwavering respect for the natural world that is so inherent in Yahi culture, and so lacking in modern American culture. We see Ishi's growth from a boy to a man as he takes on the important reponsibilities of feeding and protecting his family. We also watch as innocent Yahi are killed with the white man's "firesticks" so that their scalps can be cut off and exchanged for money. Every American citizen should know what happened to Ishi and his people; for it is American history at its best, and, unfortunately, at its worst.

Ishi: Touching Story of Cruelty to Native American

The book, Ishi: Last of His Tribe, by Theodora Kroebar is a well written book, which deeply describes the life of a Yana Indian. The Yana are one of the last Native America Indian Tribes left in America. She uses great adjectives and indian words to help the readers understand. People who are intrigued by Native Americans, wars, teenage lives, and the true cruelty of human beings will be interested in reading Ishi. Ishi is a young Yana indian boy, on the verge of manhood, getting ready for the responsibilities of having to feed and fend for his family who have supported Ishi his whole life, and have a family of his own. A group of white poeple come to the lands of the Yana and try to capture the land that has belonged to Yana tribes for centuries. The white poeple slaughter the Yana tribes unmercifully, and take the land for themselves. Ishi has to watch the people he has grown up with his whole existance and the ways of his people be demolished, and he is left alone in the world. Ishi teaches people who read it a part of American history which is normally not talked about or read about. The book uses the non-fiction happenings of the Yana and adds fictional situations and turns Ishi into a beautiful story of hate and overcoming obstacles. As I read the book, I felt mixed emotions. I felt proud at being able to identify with Ishi. Ishi was the last of his people, he really did not have much to life for, and no one was left that he could relate to. Everyone feels alone and outcast at some point in their lives, and this book helps people understand and relate to Ishi and how he feels. He was a truthful, deep, spititual person and he was plucked from his life and tossed into a world which was strange and new to him. If any of the readers have ever had to move from one town to another, they know what Ishi is feeling. I also felt hatered towards how the white men ignorantly destroyed this peaceful tribe's way of life without even feeling remorse for their actions. It is horrible how the just slaughtered the tribe, with 'fire sticks' and scalped the Yana for money. It is repulsing how the white men treated the Yana and all the Native Americans, who were on this continent before us and had been living respectably and peacefully, and had such a deep understanding of the land and how to treat it and use it wisely. Ishi was easy to comprehend, with the wordings of Theodora Kroeber. Everyone in America should know about what happened to the innocent Yana tribes and the innocent Yana people, such as Ishi, and see American history for what it really is, and what it really was and what the invading, torturous, white man and his government did to begin the longest war in history (500 years) against the peaceful, loving, spiritual NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN.

Client/server technology has dramatically changed the way we design and build information systems. In most businesses, the glory days of the single mainframe processor are gone. The one big box has been replaced or augmented by an integrated network of personal computers, communication networks, file servers and database servers. The popularity of the graphical user interface (GUI) has placed ever-increasing demands on information technology professionals to create applications that are complex, yet intuitive and easy to use.

Client/server systems knit together sectors of the business organization into a broad computing fabric that reaches far beyond the boundaries of traditional mainframe systems.

This book offers a practical guide to the core competencies required for analysis and design of today's client/server business information systems. In it, you will find analysis and design techniques which have been employed with success on many large-scale projects. Today's information environment is one of rapidly expanding complexity. Successful client/server project teams must master the design and creation of the graphical user interface, manage and maintain systems using object-oriented programming constructs, design databases capable of serving the needs of multiple business sites, and link geographically-distributed users together, both inside and outside of the enterprise. As if that isn't enough, the ever-expanding scope of today's information systems requires an even more savvy analytical understanding of the business and a well-coordinated partnership with the users and business management teams than in the past.

What is Practical Analysis and Design for Client/Server and GUI Systems?

The reason I call this “Practical Analysis and Design” is because I am an analyst and designer, myself. I don't want to wade through an academic dissertation offering mathematical proof for some hypothetical methodology, and I figure that you don't have the time either. We've got deadlines to meet. So I've included the key analytical techniques and design concepts that I have used to get client/server projects delivered in a timely and sensible manner.

These techniques can be employed using a variety of project-management philosophies, ranging from traditional waterfall to iterative spiral approaches. Some activities presented herein have definite predecessor�successor relationships while others can be conducted concurrently. This is simply the stuff that needs to be done to ensure adequate understanding of the business problem and provide reliable, traceable design specs to build and test a system.

As for the last part of the book's title, “for Client/Server and GUI Systems,” this book assumes your new systems will include at least one, perhaps many computers fulfilling the role of “server,” that your terminals or “clients” are likely to be personal computers with some type of graphical user interface, and that your database will probably be of the relational variety. The amount of object-orientation in your system will vary tremendously, depending on the capabilities of your target development languages. While the analysis and design techniques in this book are not limited to this environment, they are exceptionally well suited to this scenario.

What's this book about?

If this book weighed 100 pounds, about 60 pounds of it would be analysis and 40 pounds would be design. The analysis section starts with a chapter on project charters, which marks the beginning of the analytical process even though this activity is commonly referred to as the “planning” phase of a project. The activities of analyzing the business need are covered in the subsequent five chapters on context modeling, event modeling, information modeling, interface prototyping and resolving business issues. Then the book moves on to system design. The design chapters show how to consume the models created during the analysis phase for making architectural decisions, designing the database, and creating the interface and internal componentry.

That's a lot of stuff! What isn't in this book?

This book is about writing specifications for systems, not about writing code at the line level. There are plenty of programming and technical issues which are well beyond the scope of this work. Computer hardware is something that this book definitely not about. I won't be telling you how to wire up your network or which plug goes in which socket. I do not endeavor to endorse (or deride) any particular brand or type of hardware, language or development tool, and I can't possibly tell you whether to use version 1.342A versus version 2.417B. That kind of advice would be out of date before the ink was dry from the press.

Who needs to know all of this?

Developers, managers, business analysts, programmers . . . a lot of people need to know this stuff. Within these pages are the core competencies that form the foundation of successful software engineering. These techniques have evolved over the last three decades, along with the capabilities of the available technology and the maturity of our industry. Whether you are a traditional mainframe developer, an experienced client/server veteran with many projects under your belt, or a mouse-slinging “PC cowboy” riding the range of the GUI desktop frontier, you should be able to find something useful in this book. Today's information technology professional is becoming more and more specialized. Like the medical field, there is simply too much to learn to know it all. You can carve out a specialized career niche by picking just one or two techniques from this book and getting really good at them. Other readers may opt for a more generalized approach by mastering many of the techniques along with a variety of programming languages and technical skills.

How this book is organized

The first chapter reveals the secret for a successful client/server project. It takes the right people, sensible management, and a sound methodology. (Having a big sack of money doesn't hurt, either.) I discuss the skills required of a good analyst and the skills to look for in a designer. I offer my thoughts on the waterfall versus spiral methodology debate, and then move on to describe the key characteristics to look for in a good methodology. The chapter closes with a brief overview of the techniques covered in the rest of the book.

Chapters 2 through 7 detail the deliverables of planning and analysis. In Chapter 2, The Project Charter, I initiate the analytical process with a technique called the project decision-making framework, which is used to help the business members determine the true objectives of their new system. Chapter 3 covers The Context Model, a venerable yet important technique for exploring and defining system scope and external interfaces. The Event Model is the subject of Chapter 4. The event model defines the system's observable behavior in business terms, and documents the business policy and rules which comprise the process requirements. It is a crucial model which guides the development of the event-driven graphical user interface. The Information Model, covered in Chapter 5, creates an organizational map of the data that the system is required to remember. This is a vital technique for sound relational database design and object modeling. Chapter 6 shifts from building models to consing models. The Interface Prototype is our first foray into design. Prototyping can be used to validate models, design the interface, or even elicit requirements. Chapter 7 rounds out the analysis section with some suggestions on resolving business issues.

Chapters 8 through 12 address the design of a client/server system and graphical user interface. Chapter 8, on The Architecture Model, shows how to use the essential models from analysis to determine the most desirable (or least offensive), technical architecture for your system. Chapter 9 covers the basics of transforming an information model into a Relational Database Design. Chapter 10 introduces key Graphical User Interface Concepts. The written External Interface Design specification is the subject of Chapter 11. A written specification is a vital management tool for partitioning the development work among multiple programmers, and for devising adequate test plans. Chapter 12 is the final technical chapter, covering Internal Component Design, with an emphasis on object-oriented concepts.

In the final chapter, I present Dave's Top Ten Myths of Client/Server Development. This chapter is intended to help separate the fact from the fiction surrounding client/server development. Following the formal chapters, I have included a comprehensive case study which gives you an opportunity to exercise the techniques covered in this book for a fictitious business, rife with many of the same types of problems and issues that you find in real companies.

The philosophy of this book is simple. Building solid software applications requires rigor and discipline. No amount of arm-waving and fad-of-the-year hoopla can eradicate the need for getting into the gory details of the business problem. Techniques for analysis and design need to be sufficiently robust and expressive to articulate the business need and devise a solution, yet they must be practical enough to be practiced with everyday tools in a format that allows analysts and designers to work closely with their users.

By using the techniques in this book, you can build reliable systems which realize the goal of client/server, to exploit the power of micro, mini and mainframe computers by allocating them to their most propitious use. By doing this in an organized and rational manner, you will avoid the anarchy which is unleashed in less disciplined shops, and your efforts will yield information systems that are flexible enough to meet your business' needs while maintaining safe custody of the corporate data asset.

Several conventions employed in this book are worthy of explanation. The English language lacks a word to express “he or she” in the singular. “They” denotes plural, and “he/she” is awkward. In the interest of readability, I have used the words he and him instead of he/she and him/her. In information modeling, the term entity is formally differentiated from the term entity type. The entity type is the classification of the person, place, thing or abstract idea, and the entity is a member or instance of the classification. Customer represents the entity type. Bob's grocery store represents an entity. This distinction is not always made in the vernacular of common speech among practitioners. In the interest of smooth sentence flow I will use the word entity at times in this book to mean either entity or entity type. The context of the sentence should make it clear what I mean. Easy to read, easy to learn, truly practical techniques.

This book is exactly what the title says. It's the best book I've ever read about analysis and design techniques for building systems quickly and effectively. The techniques Dave teaches in this book include how to scope the project, define context, event, information, database design and architecture models, prototype, and design interfaces and internal components. What is just as important, Dave tells us how these techniques relate to and impact one another, and how they each fit into the emerging picture of the complete system. Dave also puts today's methods into historical perspective to provide some "Ah ha's" as to how we got to where we are today in systems design.
Dave writes in a terse, easy-to-read, plain English style. All jargon, theories and concepts are explained in a simple, straightforward words, emphasizing their practical use. I've been studying this stuff for years, and Dave has written the clearest explanation of event modeling I've ever read. Humorous examples and analogies are used to lighten up abstract concepts. The "Chicken Crossing the Road" example used to explain associative entities is unforgettable. Lots of delightful cartoons, diagrams, screens and models drawn by the author also underscore important points and keep the pace moving from cover to cover.
As an instructor, I would highly recommend using this as a text in systems analysis and design courses. Each chapter concludes with a quiz and there is case study that brings all the tools and techniques together in a system design for a veterinary practice.
If you're reviewing system design techniques or learning them for the first time, Dave's concise descriptions and humor will keep you engaged and moving along at a rapid pace.

Platform independent, plain english, and complete - buy it.

I have read this book three times, and each I learn something new. It is nice to have a book that is independent of any development platform, and in PLAIN ENGLISH to boot. This book is more valuable than the course I had taken in college.
This book is for people who want to be productive. It is not for people who like sitting in all day meetings trying to come up with the CUTEST idea.
To get a straight forward answer on associative entities/relationships was like a breath of fresh air. I was told once that you should never have to use association tables. You should maintain the integrity of the database via code - yeah right.
I have recommended this book to every developer I know. This book should purge your mind of every piece of useless information that anyone has ever told you on how to approach building and designing applications.

Decent art companion but not as flamboyant as other Marvel artbooks

As usual, the large hardcover comes with a slipcase. I'm glad to get this a local bookstore because it saved me some shipping cost to offset the higher than usual price of Marvel movie artbooks. The book comes in at 256 pages and it's filled with concept art and commentary from the staff and artists.

The character designs are for Ant-Man, Yellowjacket, Wasp, Hank Pym who are the main characters, and also several pages of art for the different types of ants. Environment designs are for Pym's residence, the secure room at Pym's basement, Pymtech and that's about all. Then there are some pages of storyboards, and a handful of other artworks for props. The main bulk, like 80 percent of the book, are the character designs and the scene paintings.

The Ant-Man designs are pretty cool. While cool, I feel they aren't really iconic. They look like suits worn by sci-fi pilots. Yellowjacket is visually more interesting, at least there are those claw-things coming out from the back. The ants that are carrying interesting tech accessories are rather cute.

Most of the scene paintings are of Ant-Man in some sort of action, whether he's carrying stacks of dollar bills or facing off with huge ants. To create the illusion of something small, or making something appear in macro mode, a lot of background blurring is used. That's to simulate the depth of field effect of camera lens that are used to take macro shot. It does work well the convey the miniature size. However, a lot of artworks have that blurred out effect so if you're someone who likes to see details, then this might be a shortcoming.

The main problem I have would be that many images are printed a bit too dark. Maybe they are drawn too dark to begin with. But it's really difficult to make out the details when it's too dark to see clearly. This is a similar problem with Thor: The Dark World's artbook. Another small issue is some images are blown up too big resulting in pixelation.

It's a good artbook, just that the character designs aren't that strong or striking when compared to other illustrious members of Avengers. Overall, I feel that it lacks the oomph of something special that would make this book even better.

Solid production, but underwhelming

I have all the MCU Art Of books, so I didn’t hesitate to preorder Ant-Man when it was announced. Now that I’ve received it, I have to say it’s not as impressive as the other Phase 2 books.

Part of the issue, I think, is that the story takes place on Earth and Scott Lang is just a “regular guy.” There’s not much need for “world-building.” Some time is spent on Hank Pym’s house, and I admit I missed a lot of the details while watching the film, but it’s just not as interesting as Tony Stark’s workshop/house or anything about Asgard, let alone GOTG. There’s actually a couple pages devoted to the safe door that Scott Lang breaks into – not exactly exciting material.

Since the environment has little to offer, most of the book is focused on the design of the suits: Ant-Man’s, Yellowjacket’s, both Wasps. There was a lot of excellent concept art here, but again, it pales when compared to the work that was done for Iron Man or his Iron Legion. Most of the book is filled with double-page spreads of concept art of Ant-Man, and storyboards.

A couple things that did stand out in the book were the discussion of how to render things from an ant’s eye view and the ants themselves. There’s a page devoted to each species of ant, why they chose that species and how they translated them to film. I enjoyed this section a lot. How to render the ants’ perspective was also cool. How would normal objects look from such a small scale? How do you render backgrounds that they are recognizable without having any detail?

Overall, this is a nice production, with the beautiful high-quality paper and matching slipcase. However, the content is just a little underwhelming. Recommended to those collecting the series, but not for one-off purchases unless you’re a die-hard Ant-Man fan.

Continuing the solid line of Marvel movie art books.

Like many people I'm sure, when Marvel announced they were making an Ant-Man movie my initial reaction was "huh, really"? Of course Marvel went on to create a great movie filled with action and humor and introduce a great character to their cinematic universe. This book shows a bit of the road they took to get there.
Like the other books in the Marvel movie art series this comes in a really nice slipcase and is really high quality. Inside you get concept art for the various suits, characters, locations, and tech you'll find in the movie. You also get commentary from the artists and designers so you can see how the final product materialized. One thing that is rather interesting is that you get multiple artists working on the same thing. For example there may be three different concept artists working on the suit for Yellowjacket so it's interesting to see how those differ and what elements are taken from each one for the final design.

Excellent Book - Passed FPGEE 21 years after graduation

I have passed the FPGEE exam (September 2015). I have never written a big review like this. The main purpose of this review is to share my honest opinion about the book, The APhA Complete Review for the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination and explain the exam pattern to new test takers. I did my Pharmacy course from 1990 - 1994. After a long journey through rough roads, I decided to become a pharmacist in USA to serve as a bridge between physicians and patients (Not to be served but to serve :). If you have lost so many years after your Pharmacy course - Don't give up. I have carefully prepared for FPGEE by using APHA. Here I am briefing about the book and the exam pattern in addition to how to prepare and score well in this exam.
The best part of this book:
1. This book is designed in such a way graduates from foreign nations can understand and follow. This book is organized as follows.
First section – Basic Biomedical Sciences – 1-7 Chapters – You may expect 40 questions;
Second section – Pharmaceutical Sciences – 8 – 16 – You may expect 75 questions;
Third section – Chapters 17- 24 – Social, Behavioral and Administrative Pharmacy Sciences – You may expect 55 questions
Finally, Clinical Sciences – Chapters 25 – 34 – You may expect 80 questions.
In addition, it has the list of normal laboratory values to common drug interactions. As you all know the total no of questions is 250.
2. It is compiled with lots of easy points to be memorized and remembered. Each and every chapter has some practice questions. Study at least one chapter a day and take a test with honesty. Don’t practice speed-read or just scan this book. It may not work. Each and every line is important. I would prefer to take notes while studying and certainly it will help you while you are revising this book.
3. Spend 3-5 hours a day for at least 3 - 4 months. Try to understand and revise several times before your exam.
4. Answering multiple choice questions: While taking the exam don’t see the answer first. Read the question two times and recall the answer then search for the suitable answer from the choices. Eliminate the wrong answers and find the right choice. Furthermore, I have followed the elimination method also. In this review whatever I have followed I am sharing with everyone. Hope it helps you to study well and pass the exam.
5. Make a plan for your study – In your calendar write the things to be done from your syllabus (blue print) and stick on to the plan.
6. Don’t spend too much time in watching YouTube videos. Because by the end of the day you may not remember what chapter you have studied. The following website may be beneficial. (...)

I would strongly recommend this book as your primary study book. In addition, for Pharmacology part I have studied Lippincott Illustrated Reviews: Pharmacology and for the calculation part I have studied Pharmaceutical Calculations by Howard C. Ansel. Finally I have used quizlet also for revising biochemistry part.
Don't worry... You will score well.. Let us use the rest of our life to help others.

If you want to pass your FPGEE ..this is THE book

If you want to pass your FPGEE. this is the book !!
I passed my FPGEE reading this book. The chapters are concise and to the point. The exercise at the back of each chapter helps a lot. Additionally, the summary of the chapter helps.
The chapter on clinical science and management are what you need to know for passing the test.

However, this book is NOT enough for pharmacology/medchem, you have to supplement that from lippencott or katzung (that has good med chem)
Also, for calculations this book isn't enough, you should refer to naplax review, or mannan.

other than that I find that this book is essential for passing the FPGEE.
