Severely Lacking

This book was obviously rushed to press in order to be one of the first exam prep books out for the VCP410 test. As other reviewers have stated, there are a lot of typographical errors. I could get past the typos but the real shame here is that the book didn't come close to preparing me for the exam. I read every page in the book and simultaneously worked the examples in a ESX 4.1 lab I have set up. While I consistently scored 85%-90% on the quizzes at the end of each chapter and scored 87% on the practice exam that is on the CD included with the book, I scored a 277 on the actual VCP410 exam that I took this morning - that's 55% and not enough to pass.

I would recommend you look at other titles for a good VCP410 exam prep book because this one just doesn't fit the bill.

Good book, well organized, etc, but it will NOT prepare you adequately to pass the exam. This book may be a good starting point, but it is not a complete picture. To pass, you will need to know every option for every configuration screen, as well as have a lot of hands on experience with troubleshooting.

Got this book hoping to get a good sence of the test but it was way short of the mark. I missed passing the VCP 410 by 23 points. The book is missing some important facts and information that is cover by the test. Like install ESX and ESXi server that boots for a iSCSI or SAN LUN. Very dispointed and now out $175 for a test that I did not pass.

The main argument put forward is that current mainstream analyses of urban and regional development have forgotten this rich heritage and fail to address the connections between different dimensions of development, the role of history and the importance of place and scale relations.

The proposed methodology integrates elements from different theories – radical economic geography, regulation approach, cultural political economy, old and new institutionalism – that all share a strong concern with time and space dynamics. They are recombined into an interdisciplinary (meta)theoretical framework, capable of articulating the overall problem of socio-economic development and providing methodological anchors for comparative case-study analysis, while recognizing context specificities. The analytical methodology focuses on key dynamics and relations, such as strategic agency and collective action, institutions and structures, culture and discourse, as well as the tension between path-dependency and path-shaping.

The methodology is then applied to eight urban and regional cases, mostly from Western Europe, but also from the United States and China. The case studies confirm the relevance of time- and space-sensitive analysis, not only for understanding development trajectories, but also for policy making. They ultimately highlight that, while post-war institutions were able to address systemic contradictions and foster a relatively inclusive development model, the neoliberal turn has led to reductionist policies that not only have resulted in an increase in social and spatial inequalities, but have also undermined growth and democracy.

Flavia Martinelli is Professor of Analysis of Territorial Systems�in the School of Architecture�at the University ‘Mediterranea’ of Reggio Calabria, Italy. Her research interests include regional development dynamics, inequalities and cohesion policies, with a focus on services and the Mezzogiorno.

Frank Moulaert is Professor of Spatial Planning and Head of the Planning and Development Unit ASRO at KU Leuven, Belgium. He specialises in research on social innovation and spatial development.

Andreas Novy is Professor of Development Studies at the Institute for the Environment and Regional Development of WU, the Vienna University of Economics and Business, Austria. He works on development and planning, social movements and governance, and transdisciplinary research.

About the Author

Gregory J. Privitera is an associate professor of psychology at St. Bonaventure University. Dr. Privitera received his PhD in behavioral neuroscience in the field of psychology at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He went on to complete postdoctoral research at Arizona State University before beginning his tenure at St. Bonaventure University. He is an author of multiple books on statistics, research methods, and the psychology of eating, in addition to authoring over two-dozen peer-reviewed scientific articles aimed at advancing our understanding of health and promoting the intake of healthier diets for children and adults. He oversees a variety of undergraduate student research projects at St. Bonaventure University where over two-dozen students, many of whom are now earning graduate degrees at various institutions, have coauthored research in his laboratories. For his research work, Dr. Privitera was recognized by St. Bonaventure University as Advisor of the Year in 2013, and awarded an Early Career Psychologist award by the American Psychological Association in 2015. For his work with students and fruitful record of teaching, Dr. Privitera was recognized in 2014 with the Award for Professional Excellence in Teaching―the highest teaching award at St. Bonaventure University. The first edition of this text was a recipient of the “Most Promising New Textbook” National Award from the Text and Academic Authors Association. In addition to his teaching, research, and advisement, Dr. Privitera is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, and is married with two children: a daughter, Grace, and a son, Aiden. Dr. Privitera is also the author of Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences, 2nd Edition.
