About the Author
A third-generation veteran, US Army Captain Ronald Fry served in the 82nd Airborne Division and as a Special Forces team leader in Afghanistan. He has completed the military's Survival School and the Ranger, Pathfinder, Jumpmaster, and Combat Diver trainings. Fry lives with his wife and five children near San Jose and works in sales management.

Tad Tuleja, author of 32 books, has taught courses on war and conflict at Harvard, Princeton, Oklahoma, and American University.

So many popular war books are about spectacular disasters—�13 Hours, Lone Survivor, Black Hawk Down. Sure, this makes for gripping reading and maybe we’ll learn some lessons from them. But Hammerhead Six proves that a book about doing things right and achieving incredible success in the most inhospitable cultural environment imaginable can be an even better read. This book tells a story that is the fullest expression of the Green Berets’ motto I have ever seen, “To liberate the oppressed.”

Tad Tuleja tells Ron Fry’s story in a gripping, intelligent, but very readable style. The professionalism of CPT Fry’s team, with their unique abilities and personalities, is engaging and inspiring. Their bravado is infectious but tempered by an essential humility and willingness to listen and learn that is the key to their success. Fans of the genre will love it and find it refreshingly hopeful. People who don’t usually read “war books” will find an uplifting story of compassion and heroism that anyone can admire.

For policy makers and professional military readers, this book goes beyond a good read. It is an essential read. Our soldiers’ and host nation peoples’ lives are at stake. This book needs to be on every commander’s’ reading lists in every unit in the military, and assigned in every classroom where the topic is even remotely related to warfare—unconventional or otherwise. The bullet-point lessons learned at the end are invaluable. We ignore them at our peril.

Take it from a guy who teaches college literature classes these days, I have read scores of these types of books and this one is the best. Full disclosure: I know the Hammerhead 6 guys. I was their chaplain in Afghanistan. Tad Tuleja is a long-time friend and collaborator. But this is my first Amazon review and there are plenty of ways to diplomatically dodge commenting on something your friend does that sucks. I hope I am not a partisan reviewer but a trustworthy one. Dude! I couldn't put this book down. I read it twice in 3 days and was absolutely enthralled with the success that Fry and his group achieved in the most dangerous part of Afghanistan. What they did, how they did it, and what that meant for their mission opened my eyes and made a big impression on me. I felt like I was there and I hope this story spreads like wildfire because it is relevant and a game changer. Way to go Hammerhead Six!

Abysmal and juvenile - waste of time and money.

I literally have never seen a fashion book that bad. I like the style on Gossip Girl and I was really looking toward this book. I have pretty much everything else on subject - InStyle and Lucky books, Rachel Zoe, Victoria Beckham, books of Chanel, Carolina Herrera, The Pocket Stylist etc etc. Any one of them is vastly superior to this book. I am absolutely baffled that any agent would look at this book and think this will be a success.
If you have never read a single fashion magazine, then perhaps this book will be of interest. There are maximum 10 photos, rest are drawings. Text is so on the 5th grade level ie. 2 pages on there are 4 types of sweater: turtleneck, tunic, v-neck and crew neck. Stunning, isn't it? And comments that go along are: V-neck for victory! Sail your crewneck to the shore or smth stupid like that.
Not sure who is targeting either. On one section he shows how to cut up a t-shirt (which everyone has already done), then there's a picture of neon pink leggings next to a pencil skirt. I was bewildered. Any fashion book will have the content of this one but so much more. This guy is so lucky to have a job.

Don't Bother

As a fashion blogger, I love to read style books. So I was quite excited for this book especially since it's written by Eric Daman. I figured the man who dresses the Gossip Girl cast so spectacularly would surely write a fantastic, well-informed book. However, I'm disappointed to say that this book was a complete waste of money.

The book features incredibly basic information that a majority of people are already well aware of. For instance, there are pages dedicated to the different styles of skirts, jeans, tops, and cardigans. There is even two pages dedicated to classifying different skirt lengths! Aren't we all already aware of what classifies a skirt as mini, knee-length, ankle length, etc.? There are even sections on types of bras and underwear. Seriously, how superfluous is that? (Come on, Daman! Is this the best you could do, really?)

At twenty-one years old I found this information to be completely useless. I didn't learn anything new from Daman. Perhaps the information within this book is better suited to a middle-schooler who knows nothing about clothing.

Bottom line: Don't waste your money. If you really still want to read it, go to a bookstore, take a seat, and read it. It will take all of fifteen minutes.

I'm so glad I didn't end up ordering this book, but looked through it (it took all of ten seconds) at the bookstore instead. I expected it to be full of pictures of cool clothes, fun gossip girl fashion and inspiration. This has none of that. The paper quality is even bad! There are barely any pictures, the fashion that IS there is awful and unwearable, and the "inspirations" are things we've already seen a million times (turtleneck, t-shirt, basic dress...)yawn. Maybe buy used, but even then, don't bother with this book unless you're in 6th grade.

Substantial, readable advice on tackling a thesis

When tackling an MBA thesis, this book was the best we came across. It is well-structured, written in a very readable style and has a good index. Jankowicz explains what is usually expected at various levels (from undergraduate to Ph.D.). The content is often academic, but if your thesis is supposed to have a serious academic component and you are interested in producing a solid report, that will help rather than hinder you. It's the kind of book interested students will dip into over and over again in the course of writing a thesis. Having Jankowicz on the shelf won't replace a helpful academic supervisor, but it will answer MANY questions, thus allowing you to use your supervisor's time more productively, for issues specific to your project. If your project is data-heavy, you will need other reference material; suggestions are provided in the book.

The Best Book Ever

This book, The Art of Kissing by Hugh Morris, is a funny read. The archaic advice is as well written as it is outdated. However, with some adaption, there are some great tips in this book. In particular,"squiffy ether 'jag(s)'" and "electric kissing parties" are proven, viable, successes! But, as Lavar Burton would say,"you don't have to take my word for it".

She'll be a goner

My girlfriend gave me this book, after ridiculing my technique on our first kiss. At the time, I tried to explain to her that since I was far less experienced in kissing matters than she, I should be given another chance. She relented, I read the book, and the last time we were together, I guestimate that we kissed 12,960 times over a four day period, so I guess I'd have to say that the book worked (unless she's after my money, of which there is none, since I've spent so much of it on her). What I found particularly insightful was the overarching philosophy that a kiss is really a poetic piece of art--to be slowly savored, deliberately dwelt upon, and absorbed by all the senses. As in these lines quoted in the book: "The earth went from under my feet; my soul was no longer in my body; I touched the stars; I knew the happiness of angels.'' Those lines recall for me an equivalent, though somewhat more roughly-put sentiment expressed by Simone de Beauvoir in one of her letters to her lover, Nelson Algren: "Give me your mouth.'' Either way, the point is the same: the joy of closing one's eyes, opening one's lips, and feeling the wet, the warmth, and the want of a lover's mouth is unparalleled. Indeed, as Morris quotes Elizabeth Barrett Browning, a good kiss is "as long and silent as the ecstatic night.'' Believe in and practice the philosophy this book preaches, and your partner will be a goner in no time. Just ask my girlfriend!

Powerful, Simple

When reviewing a classic, it's not clear whether a reviewer should discuss the writing or the physical medium.

For such well known and widely appreciated material, a reviewer must have something pretty darn poignant to say to provide useful information to potential purchasers. Alas, this is not me. I can say that this particular book exhibits poetic beauty to match Frost's other books, even though it is overlooked in favor of books like 'Mending Wall' and 'The Road Not Taken' ... books you can actually find recent printings of on Amazon. 'West-Running Brook' contains my favorite poem by Frost.

Regarding the physical medium, the binding and typesetting are fine -- never deficient and never outstanding. But there were two outstanding features. First, the original printing features many excellent engravings, which are not carried over into compilations. Second, my copy arrived with a folded, handwritten letter tucked inside the cover, apparently sent along with the book from its original owner to another person as a gift. The first feature may not matter, since people buy Frost for words; the second may not matter since, if it is authentic, it won't feature in other copies.

A final comment: I suggest reading Frost either in the original volumes or in compilations that retain the original organization of material. Frost published his works in suggestive thematic organizations, which are lost in a best-of compilation or a compilation organized by alphabetical title names. This is perhaps the most formal reason to recommend this book. Poetry has a funny relationship to formality though, and it is certainly inadequate to recommend the book on formal grounds. Poetry is a small-doses medicine, and big fat volumes of small print and narrow margins are uninviting, even if they are objectively economical. This volume is inviting. Among a casual group of friends -- with whom I have never mentioned poetry and of whom none had either -- I was inspired to get the book and make a couple short readings. Everyone enjoyed it. Technically this is possible with the same words in any medium, but this is a solid, simple, spacious, friendly volume amenable, even gracious, to your instinct to read.

I have been working on my yoga practice for over 30 years. I have read many books on the subject over the years. I found this CD set to be a great addition to my library. Mr. Freeman does a wonderful job of distilling the many threads of yogic philosophy into a very digestible form.
I have loaded it onto my iPod, and listen to it as I am out and about.
If you are interested in what goes on behind Yoga. This is for you. I could not recommend it more.

Knifty models confusingly presented

That rating is really 3 1/2 stars, because the book is better than just average. It may look slim, but it's chock-full of several models in each of many families of modules. Not hours, but weeks of fun (not to mention a lot of paper squares).
The problem is the presentation. Many models are hard to follow, especially when trying to put them together; more than once, I had to refer to another book to figure out what to do. Some diagrams are confusing, if not outright wrong (3-dimensional pictures are especially prone to this). Occasionally instructions are alluded to (e.g., in captions) that aren't there. There's a complete absence of cross-references between illustrative photos and instructions for folding them.
In short, a frustrating book. If the good parts weren't so good, it wouldn't be quite so frustrating.

Terrible...even for an experienced folder

I have been doing origami for about 10 years, and have had great success with modular origami (mostly from "Unit Origami" by Tomoko Fuse). This book has diagrams that are hard to understand, the colored side of the paper is not even marked so it's very difficult to know if you are folding correctly. There are no written instructions, only the bad diagrams and I could not make a single model from this book. Even the few photos of the completed models were in black and white and not very good photos at all. I would recommend Fuse's book or another modular origami book with better diagrams. For those that have had success with models from this book, congratulations, but even with my usual vast amount of patience it did not take long for me to throw this book across the room in frustration. However, I will say that the models are very unique and beatiful and if you can do them, they should be very satisfying. I am copying this same review for "3-d Geometric Origami" by Gurkewitz and Arnstein, for I felt the same was true of that book.

Beautiful Models for Expert Folders

This book bursts with stunning models of various polyhedra. The directions, and models, are harder than in "Modelar Origami Polyhedra." The book opens with a nicely detailed section of polyhedra facts, including the numbers of edges, corders, face shapes and category of each shape, along with a definition of Platonic solids. For the non-mathematician, this information provides a nice grounding in polyhedra. The directions for each module are complicated yet clear. Occasionally the lack of color in the book proves a bit frustrating, but patience and double-checking can bypass that nitpicky problem. The one thing this book does not provide is guidance about connecting all of the modules. That is when authorial reassurance is most required! Nevertheless, this book will provide hours of pleasure for those with patience and nimble fingers.
